Welcome to the Ovies + Giglio Podcast

Where North Carolina sports fans come to think, laugh, and argue just a little.

If you live for ACC drama, still yell about officiating calls from 2004, or treat tailgates like a competitive sport – this is your podcast.

Hosted by veteran sports broadcasters Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio, the show is a daily dose of bold takes, smart analysis, and unapologetically local conversation.

Whether you rep NC State, UNC, Duke, love a good Carolina Hurricanes rant, or support any other North Carolina sports organization, Ovies + Giglio break down the latest headlines in Triangle sports, college football, and beyond, with humor, honesty, and a whole lot of heart.

No corporate scripts. No tired cliches. Just two guys who know this market, love this state, and say what you’re already yelling at your radio.

Listen in. Join the banter. And maybe—just maybe—admit the other Joe has a point

Ovies and Giglio

Joe Ovies

Longtime Triangle radio voice. WKNC alum. Guy who saw the YouTube era coming.

Hot take he’s sticking with: The only thing louder than Carter-Finley after a touchdown is State Twitter after a loss.
Most likely to say: “Here’s what this actually means for the ACC.”
Local move he’s proud of:

Joe Ovies has been talking sports in North Carolina since the early 2000s, starting at NC State’s student radio station before joining 850 The Buzz and later 99.9 The Fan. Over his 13+ years on air, he earned a reputation for telling it straight and keeping it local.

He’s the one behind the podcast setup, video edits, and the occasional surprise F1 reference. Back in the day, he ran a YouTube series called Low Rent Theatre before that kind of thing had a name. He doesn’t play favorites when it comes to local teams, but he has a real appreciation for what sports mean to this market and the fans who ride every high and low.

When he’s not working on the next episode, you’ll probably find him testing new gear, building a playlist for the tailgate, or explaining why all of this actually comes down to media rights.

Ovies and Giglio

Joe Giglio

Stat guy. Golf guy. Longtime beat writer who still remembers every play from 2002.

Hot take he’s not letting go of: NC State got snubbed in 2002.
Most likely to say: “Let’s put this in context.”
Local move he’s proud of: Can name more Triangle high school legends than the internet.

Joe Giglio came to Raleigh from New Jersey, attended NC State and ended up becoming one of the most trusted voices in Triangle sports. He started at The News & Observer in the ’90s, where he worked his way from the stat desk to covering NC State and UNC full-time. His mix of reporting experience and encyclopedic memory makes him the podcast’s go-to for context, history, and big-picture takes.

He’s serious about accuracy, measured in how he delivers it, and somehow still has every ACC schedule from the last two decades memorized. If something happened in the conference since 1995, Giglio probably wrote about it.

Off mic, he’s an early riser, big into golf, and somehow still competitive in every fantasy league he joins.
